About

Holistic Mental Health & Wellbeing: Integrating Nature Based Therapy Mental health and wellbeing are influenced by much more than what is happening in our minds. Our physical health, relationships, environment, sense of purpose, daily routines, connection with community and relationship with the natural world can all play an important role in how we feel and function. This experiential program introduces a holistic approach to mental health and wellbeing, integrating principles of Nature Based Therapy to explore the many interconnected areas that contribute to a person's overall wellbeing. Rather than focusing only on problems, symptoms or what may be “wrong”, participants are invited to consider the whole person and the environments and relationships that surround them. The program explores eight dimensions of wellbeing — emotional, physical, social, environmental, intellectual, occupational, financial and spiritual — and how changes in one area can influence the others. Nature is woven throughout the experience as a source of reflection, regulation, connection and learning. Participants will be introduced to simple Nature Based Therapy practices and encouraged to explore how time outdoors, sensory awareness, natural rhythms, metaphor and connection with place can support mental health and everyday wellbeing. The program is practical, reflective and experiential. There is no expectation to have previous experience with mindfulness, therapy or nature-based practices. Participants are encouraged to engage in ways that feel comfortable for them. Through guided activities and conversation, participants will have opportunities to reflect on their current wellbeing, recognise existing strengths and resources, identify areas they may wish to nurture, and consider small and realistic actions that can support greater balance and connection in everyday life. At the heart of the program is a simple idea: wellbeing does not exist in isolation. We are connected to ourselves, to other people, to our communities and to the environments in which we live. Participants will leave with practical tools, personal reflections and ideas they can continue to draw upon beyond the program, including ways of intentionally bringing nature into their own wellbeing practices.
