For people whose events shouldn't look like everyone else's

The creative event space Melbourne keeps recommending

A 5-storey Collingwood building with seven themed rooms, two vintage train carriages on the roof, six bars, and a baseline aesthetic that means your event already looks intentional before you've unpacked the first centerpiece.

Bar minimums from $1,000 · capacity 60-400 · venue is the design
If your event has any element of brand, design, art, performance, or "we want it to actually feel like something" — most function-room venues are working against you. Beige walls take effort to overcome. Trainscendence is the opposite. The venue itself is a design choice. Themed rooms with personality, vintage train carriages on the rooftop, custom lighting, and 5 storeys of texture — your event inherits all of it on day one.
  • Seven themed rooms — each a different aesthetic to anchor your event around
  • Two vintage train carriages on the rooftop — backdrop for product shoots, brand films, photo content
  • Custom branding allowed — projection, vinyl, photo walls, signage
  • 60-400 capacity — workshop, exhibition opening, brand activation, launch night
  • Six bars — the social texture that turns an event into a night
  • Sound-isolated rooms — multi-room programming without acoustic bleed
Common questions

Things people ask

Is it suitable for art exhibitions, pop-ups, and brand activations?
Yes — this is one of our most common event types. The themed rooms work as gallery spaces, the rooftop is a built-in photo set, and we're happy to work with custom installations as long as they don't damage the building.
Can we run a multi-room programming format (different vibes per floor)?
That's exactly the kind of event the building was designed for. Pick three or four rooms, run different programming in each — DJ in one, panel in another, gallery in a third — and let guests wander. We'll help with logistics.
How many people can come?
Depends on which space. The whole rooftop fits 120 standing. A single themed room fits 60-100. Whole-venue takeovers fit up to 400. Tell us your headcount in the enquiry and we'll suggest the right fit.
How much does a creative event hire at Trainscendence cost?
There's no flat venue-hire fee — instead we use a bar minimum spend that varies by room and night. Weeknights start at $1,000 (small themed rooms) and scale up to $5,000+ for the whole rooftop on a Saturday. Whatever your guests drink at the bar counts toward that minimum, so for most creative event hires of 50+ people, the minimum is hit naturally and there's effectively no venue cost on top.
Can we have food?
Yes — three options. (1) Our preferred external caterer Fabulous Catering delivers to the venue, invoiced separately. (2) Some rooms allow you to BYO platters or order pizzas in. (3) For larger or curated events, we can arrange custom canapés and drinks packages. We'll talk options based on your event.
Can we decorate the room?
Yes, within reason. No nails in walls or anything that damages the rooms (which all already have a lot of personality). Balloons, flowers, photo backdrops, custom signage — totally fine. Confetti — please ask first because we've had cleanup adventures.
How do I get there from the city?
We're on Easey Street in Collingwood, a 15-minute Uber from the CBD or a short walk from Collingwood station (Mernda/Hurstbridge lines). Look up at the back of Easey Street — you'll see two trains on the rooftop. That's us.
