A wedding reception, not a wedding factory

The most unique wedding venue Melbourne has hiding in plain sight

First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes a party in a rooftop train carriage. Two vintage Hitachi carriages on a Collingwood rooftop, seven themed rooms below, six bars, and a wedding reception that doesn't look like every wedding reception.

Bar minimums from $1,000 · capacity 60-400 · custom packages available
Most wedding venues fall into two camps: the manicured-lawn-and-marquee outdoor venue, or the plate-glass-warehouse industrial venue. They're fine. But everyone's done them. Trainscendence is what happens when you want a wedding that looks unmistakably like yours, in a space that the photos will keep returning to for the rest of your life. Two vintage train carriages on a rooftop. Themed rooms with personality. A skyline view of the city.

Common questions

Things people ask

How much does a wedding at Trainscendence cost?
Wedding pricing depends heavily on format (sit-down vs cocktail), headcount, and catering choices. Most weddings here land between $15,000 and $60,000 all-in (venue + bar + food + AV). For a quote we'll need a quick brief — send through the form and we'll come back within 24 hours.
How many people can come?
Depends on which space. The whole rooftop fits 120 standing. A single themed room fits 60-100. Whole-venue takeovers fit up to 400. Tell us your headcount in the enquiry and we'll suggest the right fit.
Can we have the ceremony here too?
Yes — the rooftop is gorgeous for ceremonies (sunset west-facing) and we have themed rooms suited to indoor ceremonies for smaller weddings. Wedding-day flow with ceremony, drinks reception, and seated dinner all in the same building works really well.
Catering — is there a preferred caterer or can we BYO?
Both. Our preferred caterer Fabulous Catering is excellent and used to the venue, which simplifies things. You can also bring an external caterer of your choice — just let us know during planning so we can coordinate access and kitchen logistics.
Can we have it on a Sunday afternoon?
Sunday afternoon weddings are quietly some of our favourites — golden-hour rooftop ceremonies, lower midweek-pricing on the bar minimum, and a more relaxed feel than a Saturday night. Highly recommend if your guest list works.
Can we decorate the room?
Yes, within reason. No nails in walls or anything that damages the rooms (which all already have a lot of personality). Balloons, flowers, photo backdrops, custom signage — totally fine. Confetti — please ask first because we've had cleanup adventures.
How far in advance should we book?
For Friday and Saturday nights, 6-8 weeks is comfortable. For weeknights, 2-3 weeks. We've done last-minute Sunday afternoon bookings with 5 days' notice — just send the enquiry and we'll tell you what's actually available.
How do I get there from the city?
We're on Easey Street in Collingwood, a 15-minute Uber from the CBD or a short walk from Collingwood station (Mernda/Hurstbridge lines). Look up at the back of Easey Street — you'll see two trains on the rooftop. That's us.
